Erectile dysfunction (ED) and impotence

Erectile failure, also known as erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence, is a common condition that affects many men. Studies show that up to 1 in 3 men between 40 and 49 experience some degree of erectile failure, and occurrence increases with age.

Erectile dysfunction (impotence)

At Behandlerverket Ski we offer a holistic examination and treatment programme for men who want to strengthen or improve their erection. This applies both to those who do not get a satisfactory effect from medication, those who get unpleasant side effects, and those who want a more lasting improvement.

Shockwave treatment – a regenerative approach

Focused shockwave therapy is a modern, non-invasive treatment that has shown a positive effect on erection problems. The method has been used in urology and orthopaedics since the 1980s, and in recent years has shown promising results in ED. Shockwave stimulates blood flow and tissue regeneration in the penis, which can give a more natural and lasting erection.

The treatment is recommended by Norsk Helseinformatikk as a safe and documented measure against erectile dysfunction. The advantages include:

  • Long-term effect: Results can last up to 5 years after a completed course.
  • Safe and free of side effects: Shockwave treatment has minimal risk.
  • Documented effect: Average improvement of 3–5 points on the IIEF-5 scale (The International Index of Erectile Function). This corresponds to an upgrade of about one grade out of 5, which can give a noticeable improvement in daily life.

IIEF-5 scoring:

22-25: No erectile dysfunction 17-22: Mild erectile dysfunction 12-16: Mild to moderate erectile dysfunction 8-11: Moderate erectile dysfunction 5-7: Severe erectile dysfunction

A holistic course of treatment

A course of treatment always starts with a thorough assessment of the degree of ED, including measurement of blood circulation in the penis, grading of tissue quality in the erectile tissue with ultrasound scanning, aligning expectations and assessment of risk factors or underlying health conditions.

The treatment typically consists of:

  • Shockwave therapy once to twice a week for 6–9 weeks, depending on health condition and response
  • Home exercises and tasks to support the treatment
  • Follow-up and adjustment of the course as needed

There is no medical upper limit on the number of treatments, but most people experience an effect after as few as 6–10 treatments.

Professional cooperation and expertise

We have close professional cooperation with Michael Strøm from MS Insight in Copenhagen, the Nordic region's leading expert in shockwave treatment for potency problems. This ensures that our clients get access to the latest knowledge and optimal treatment effect. Before starting we always map any cardiovascular disease to ensure safety and the best possible result.
