Shockwave for erectile dysfunction (impotence or erectile failure)
A course of treatment with focused shockwave (focused pressure wave) has shown a positive effect in the treatment of erection problems, also called erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence. The treatment method has been used in urology and orthopaedics since the 1980s with greater and greater success.
Behandlerverket Ski offers an examination and treatment programme for male patients who struggle to have intercourse, whether because medication has not worked, because of unpleasant side effects from it, or because they want a stronger or more lasting erection.
Shockwave treatment for erectile dysfunction is one of relatively few treatment measures recommended by Norsk Helseinformatikk https://nhi.no/sykdommer/mann/seksuelle-tema/erektil-dysfunksjon-impotens/ The advantages of this treatment are a possible long-term effect (up to 6 months after a course of treatment) and that it is risk-free and without side effects. The average effect of a course of treatment is documented to be between 1–5 points on the IIEF-5 (The International Index of Erectile Function), which means that on average you move up roughly one grade (out of 5). This means that Shockwave is not a miracle cure, but can give an important improvement in penile erection.
A course of treatment begins with establishing the degree of ED, as well as aligning expectations and measures around risk factors and contributing health conditions. You should expect a course with treatments once a week, for 6–12 weeks in a row (depending on general health and response to treatment), plus home exercise and tasks. There is no upper limit on the number of treatments in terms of what is medically safe, but you should expect some degree of effect within 6–10 treatments. (see more information in the video about Shockwave treatment for erectile dysfunction at the bottom of the page)
We work closely with the leading Nordic shockwave expert in erection problems, Michael Strøm from MS Insight in Copenhagen ( https://www.msinsight.dk / ) – and are not afraid to use each other for professional sparring.
To optimise the course and effect as much as possible, it is helpful to find out about any cardiovascular disease before the course.
