Olav is a positive and motivating man from Rogaland who easily turns a problem into an exciting challenge. He swam actively in his teens, but when the “prune fingers” started to become permanent, he decided the time had come to spend a bit more time in the dry element. He has himself suffered a lot from injuries and is now passionate about helping others become injury-free so that they can perform in their own arena – whether that is in sport, leisure, work or as grandparents.
Active rehabilitation with guidance on exercises is Olav's first choice in treatment, but he uses manual treatment when needed. He also places great emphasis on building a good relationship with each individual patient, and makes sure to tailor the treatment to create the best possible and lasting result. This is done through a thorough examination and a holistic analysis of the whole person, followed by conversation and advice so that you gain a good understanding of the measures taken. He has an education in coaching and motivation theory that is actively used in treatment, with a focus on mastery and ownership.
He is a former medical lead for the football club FC Oslo, has a great interest in sports injuries and regularly attends courses to stay professionally up to date.
Previously he has worked closely with other athletes and sports teams, and worked as head coach for a swimming club.
In treatment, Olav Barøy uses:
- Manual treatment/couch-based treatment
- Guided rehabilitation
- Adapted exercise programmes and home exercises
- Training planning and load mapping for athletes/recreational exercisers
- Shockwave therapy
- Sling treatment
- Diagnostic ultrasound
Outside Behandlerverket you will usually find Olav at a gym or in a swimming pool, but he prefers to spend Friday evenings on the sofa with a good film and some snacks.
