Did you know that 30–50% of Norway's population will have experienced neck pain, or complaints related to the neck, in the past year?
It can be difficult to tell complaints from the neck and the upper back apart, as the pain can blend into each other, with involvement of the shoulder, shoulder blade and arm.
The causes of neck pain can be many. Pain most often arises when there are functional disturbances between joints and muscles in the neck. It can be triggered by static postures over time, or sudden incorrect loading during exercise or activity. Tension caused by physical and mental stress is another common cause.
Common symptoms of neck pain:
- Sudden locking of the neck (wry neck)
- Markedly reduced movement and pain to one side or several
- Stiffness
- Headache
- Dizziness/light-headedness
- Pain out into the shoulders and/or between the shoulder blades
- Pain out into the arms
A thorough history and clinical examination are important when you come to us at Behandlerverket so that we can find out which treatment you are most likely to respond best to.
The treatment plan you receive from us aims to reduce pain and normalise mobility as quickly as possible, so that you can return to the activities you usually want to do, and preferably a little stronger and more active than before. It will probably include treatment in the form of exercises and training, and/or manual treatment of stiff joints and sore muscles. Our concept is based on easy access to exercise and treatment.
