Lumbago / low back pain

Did you know that 80% of Norway's population will experience lumbago, or what we in Norwegian call non-specific low back pain, at some point in their lives?

About lumbago / low back pain

Pain in the lower back is the most common cause of musculoskeletal pain in Norway. Normally it is completely harmless, but it can be associated with intense pain, stiffness and altered mobility of the back. Low back pain can arise acutely or gradually and can improve quickly, but relapses and long-lasting complaints are not unusual.

The cause of low back pain is rarely a single event, even though it can often feel that way. In reality there are many and complex reasons why you get pain in the lower back. Inactivity or a sudden increase in load are common causes. For that reason, the treatment plan and follow-up should be adapted individually so that you get the best help to prevent relapses later in life.

Typical symptoms of low back pain are:

  • Pain and stiffness in the lower back
  • A crooked back because of pain
  • It can feel as if the back gives way when moving
  • Painful to bend to one side or several
  • Better to be moving or to lie still
  • Radiating pain down one or both legs

A thorough history and clinical examination are important when you come to us at Behandlerverket so that we can find out which treatment you are most likely to respond best to.

There are mainly three measures with documented effect on lumbago.

  • Pain-relieving medication
  • Manual treatment
  • Exercise/rehabilitation

Unfortunately, Behandlerverket cannot help you with prescription medication, but we are very good at treatment and exercise. Our concept is based on easy access to both.

The treatment plan you receive from us aims to reduce pain and normalise mobility as quickly as possible, so that you can return to the activities you usually want to do, and preferably a little stronger and more active than before. It will probably include treatment in the form of exercises and training, and/or manual treatment of stiff joints and sore muscles.

As mentioned, most low back pain is harmless, but there can be
