Hip pain and groin pain

Did you know that weight loss has well-documented effects on reducing pain in hip osteoarthritis? Hip and groin pain can be seen in all age groups, but hip osteoarthritis (wear and tear) is more common with increasing age. Genetics play a large part in osteoarthritis of the hip.

About hip pain and groin pain

Otherwise, people in all age groups can experience spontaneous pain in the hip and groin region triggered during sport or activity.

Hip pain and groin pain can come on gradually over time without knowing exactly what the cause is. The hip joint can cause pain in the hip, groin and knee, as with osteoarthritis. Otherwise, it is not unusual for bursae, the skeleton or muscles to be the source of pain.

  • Pain
  • Reduced mobility
  • Swelling
  • Pain at the start of activity, improvement during activity and then pain at rest
  • Painful to lie on the hip
  • Clicking sounds when the hip moves
  • Knee pain
  • Changed gait

Common hip and groin conditions:

  • Groin strain (muscle injury)
  • Groin pain
  • Hip osteoarthritis (wear and tear/coxarthrosis)
  • Clicking in the hip (snapping hip)
  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) / restricted space in the hip joint
  • Bursitis (inflammation of a bursa)
  • Tendon inflammation (tendinopathy)

A thorough history and clinical examination are important when you come to us at Behandlerverket so that we can find out which treatment you are most likely to respond best to. The sooner we reach the right diagnosis, the sooner you improve. When needed, our practitioners can perform diagnostic ultrasound or refer you for other imaging. Chiropractors and manual therapists can refer for imaging such as MRI, and refer to specialist health services if surgery should be considered.

The treatment plan you receive from us aims to reduce pain and normalise mobility as quickly as possible, so that you can return to the activities you usually want to do, and preferably a little stronger and more active than before.

Some of the treatments we use for hip and groin complaints:

  • treatment of muscles
  • shockwave therapy for tendon conditions/tendon inflammation
  • exercise therapy for mobility and strength
  • manipulation is often offered where hip and groin pain has led to reduced mobility in the lower part of the back

We know that both active and passive treatment may be needed. After all, our concept is based on easy access to treatment and exercise.
