Osteopaths find the connection between your complaints, your body and your everyday life. They need a holistic understanding of your pain and complaints to help you get better. Our osteopaths therefore take plenty of time with you and your health.
What does an osteopath do?
An osteopath always starts with a conversation about your complaints and a thorough review of your medical history. The osteopath will also ask follow-up questions about any illnesses, previous complaints, sleep, stress and so on. This conversation lays the foundation for further examinations and makes individual treatment possible.
After the conversation, the osteopath will carry out a clinical orthopaedic and neurological examination. This is done to make the best possible diagnosis and to decide whether osteopathy is the right treatment for you at this point.
Which treatment methods does the osteopath use?
During treatment, the osteopath uses a wide range of manual treatment techniques – both gentle and forceful. Examples of such techniques are: manipulation techniques (cracking), muscle stretches or gentler techniques for muscles and joints. Exercises and/or other activities are also used as part of the treatment. These may be activities that you follow up at home. The choice of measures will vary and be adapted to you as a patient.
Managing and coping with your complaints well is important for quality of life – both in the short and the long term. Our osteopaths are keen to give you good tools so that you can manage the complaints well yourself. It is normal to experience complaints to some degree during your life. Knowing more about how the body works may mean that complaints come less often, last for a shorter time and are less painful. We work with therapists from other professions in musculoskeletal health. Evaluation and knowledge sharing across therapists and professions give a broader perspective – to your benefit as a patient.
The body is constantly adapting to internal and external stress factors, both physical and mental. Among other things, this means that a dysfunction in one place can contribute to pain somewhere else. It is therefore our job to find this connection, treat you and be your individual problem-solver. That is osteopathy.
The education qualifies for membership of Norsk osteopatiforbund (the Norwegian osteopathic association) and meets the Norwegian Directorate of Health's requirements for the education when applying for authorisation. Our osteopaths are authorised.
