What is special about manual therapy?
Physiotherapists who can call themselves manual therapists have, in addition to their further education, passed course exams in radiology, differential diagnosis and laboratory analyses, and they have special training in social security matters. This is part of the expertise that gives manual therapists extended rights in the health service for musculoskeletal disorders.
A manual therapist can help by:
- referring patients on to the specialist health service.
- referring patients for radiological examinations.
- signing patients off sick with musculoskeletal complaints/disorders for up to 12 weeks.
- in the case of long-term sick leave, taking part in the statutory “dialogue meeting” together with the employer, the employee and the occupational health service. The purpose of the dialogue meeting is to agree on measures that make it possible for the person on sick leave to be at work when it is medically sound.
