In this way, an ultrasound examination combined with a clinical examination gives the practitioner the opportunity to make a more accurate diagnosis, which in turn leads to the right treatment sooner.
Diagnostic ultrasound is the only imaging examination for musculoskeletal complaints that can be carried out during movement. This is called a dynamic examination and is very beneficial, as it gives a unique opportunity to assess the function of the painful area. In addition, an ultrasound examination has the great advantage that you can easily compare with the “healthy” side, which gives the examiner a good basis for comparison.
In summary, diagnostic ultrasound is particularly well suited to detecting:
- Tendinopathy/tendinitis
- Calcifications in muscles and tendons
- Tears in tendons, ligaments or muscles.
- Bursitis
- Bleeding/swelling
- Injuries around joints
